About GCR

OUR MISSION:

GCR exists to accelerate the world's transition to a sustainable, low-carbon future by creating a next generation ecosystem for high-quality carbon reduction projects. We aim to make the process of developing and accrediting high impact carbon projects more accessible, efficient, and impactful.

OUR VISION:

A world united in ambitious climate action, where sustainable development is fueled by innovation, integrity, and inclusiveness.

GCR’s key focus:

  • Promoting a growth of high-quality, verified carbon reduction projects globally to meet Paris Agreement goals.

  • Providing an efficient system for monitoring, evaluating and verifying carbon reduction projects.

  • Making carbon markets more inclusive through technology, lowering barriers to entry for small and medium project developers.

  • Building trust and transparency through innovative technologies like blockchain that enable a publicly auditable record

  • Empowering individuals and organizations to easily understand, purchase, and manage carbon credits that deliver real climate impact.

Together we can mitigate climate change through collective ingenuity and determination. Join us.

OUR VALUES

At the heart of our work are the tens of thousands taking meaningful climate action - from project developers sequestering carbon to enterprise purchasers financing these efforts. As a carbon registry, we aim to support these change-makers through a system built on science, integrity, and inclusivity.

People drive progress. That's why we put communities first and strive to make sustainability accessible.

Partnership powers change. We collaborate across borders and sectors to scale creative climate solutions.

Protecting our planet is urgent. We deliver the transparency and rigor to ensure investments mitigate real emissions.

By bridging people, enabling partnerships, and safeguarding our environment, we aim to be a catalytic enabler for community led conservation

GOVERNANCE

The Global Climate Registry will be overseen by a distinguished Board of Governors, including diverse representation from academia, enterprise, NGOs, and local community stakeholders. The Board will be advised by a high-level Advisor Committee, including experts from Science & Technology, Finance, Policy & Governance, and Social Development to provide strategic guidance and oversight. GCR will also have Technical Methodology Committee focused on the research and development of new climate mitigation strategies, and enhancements in digital Measurement, Reporting and Validation (dMRV).

GCR will have a secretariat responsible for overseeing daily operations, stakeholder engagement, project enrolment, credit issuance, credit transactions and account management.

GCR is designed as a social benefit organisation, creating a public good while maintaining independence of judgement, measurement and evaluation.

CORE OPERATING PRINCIPLES

Transparency - GCR will operate in a transparent and accessible manner that allows project developers, enterprise buyers and verification and validation bodies to interact with each other in a high trust environment.

Science-backed Standards and Methods - GCR will promote and evaluate only science-backed standards and proven methodologies for monitoring, measuring, and validating carbon reduction. .

Independent Verification -GRC will require independent verification of claims by a qualified 3rd party prior to issuance of carbon credits for any project.

STATUS & ACHIEVEMENTS

2020-2021. The vision and plan for a technology driven carbon registry is developed by the founders through academic research, industry reflection, and technological development.

2022. Carbonbase and ImpactX leadership start working together to discuss opportunities to utilize digital tools to enhance carbon registry operations. HBAR Foundation funds development of the GCR public-ledger accountability system, which is coupled with ImpactX’s impact evidence platform.

2023. GCR’s innovative digital native system undergoes technological development. GCR cultivates partnerships with project developers across Asia, South America and Africa.

GCR principals work closely with leadership of IEEE, one world’s largest standards-setting organisations, to launch an official standards working group for carbon-mitigation projects.

GCR begins formalising its Board of Governors and Advisors with membership from eminent climate researchers, enterprise executives, and frontline community leaders.
